Introduction

Welcome to Rhythmanalysis, where we explore the patterns and rhythms of everyday life through a collection of Audiovisual art. Inspired by French sociologist Henry Lefebvre's book of the same name, and by a multimedia approach we seek to challenge traditional modes of perception and offer new perspectives on the social and spatial organization of our daily lives. Through our exploration of rhythm, we aim to gain deeper insights into how power operates, how cultural norms and values are constructed and maintained, and how these forces impact our daily lives. By paying close attention to the rhythms of everyday life, we can develop a greater understanding of our world and promote critical reflection and engagement with our surroundings. As we continue on this journey, we strive to create work that speaks to the complexity of our world and its many layers of meaning that exist beneath the surface of our everyday experiences. Thank you for visiting Rhythmanalysis! Mehrdad, Sasan

"Now look around you at this meadow, this garden, these trees and these houses. They offer themselves to your eyes as in a simultaneity. This simultaneity is mere appearance, surface, a spectacle. Go deeper.
Do not be afraid to disturb this surface. Be like the wind that shakes these trees. Let your gaze be penetrating, let it not limit itself to reflecting and mirroring. Let it transgress its limits a little.
You at once notice that every plant, every tree has its rhythm. And even several rhythms. You will grasp every being, every entity, both living and non-living, ‘symphonically’ or ‘polyrhythmically’.
You will grasp it in its space-time, in its place and its approximate becoming: including houses and buildings, towns and landscapes."

It's pandemic! The rhythms of daily life have been disrupted, and we are left to confront the emptiness and stillness that remains in their absence. The boundaries between the real and the imaginary, the past and the present, the self and the other, are becoming increasingly blurred. Yet, new rhythms have emerged, as we find new ways of connecting with one another, and new ways of experiencing the world around us...

Anachronic wind
(2022) - 10 min

It's 2022, Tehran, the anniversary of 1979 revolution. A wind blows from the past. the wind tears through the fabric of society, disrupting its natural rhythm and causing a sense of stillness. The anachronic wind hinders every movement. It is a force that pulls the people back to an imaginary past, leaving them disconnected from the present and unsure of the future, unless they come up with a greater force...

As the baby peers into the ring, a distorted reflection of his mother catches his eye. The baby experiences the odd nature of perception. the image is both familiar and unfamiliar, a fragmented image of something that is supposed to be whole and complete. How to make sense of it? The baby stares into the ring, captivated by the rhythmic movements of the distorted image. He perceive the world as a series of fleeting moments, each filled with its own timbre. Like the fragmented reflections on the ring, the baby's experience of reality is abstract; a patchwork of sounds, sights, that blend together in a chaotic experience.

A continuous shot reveals a highway noise barrier adorned with anti-state slogans, remnants of the Woman-Life-Freedom movement. Despite authority's attempts to erase, these slogans stand firm, synthesizing with the scribbles that aim to conceal them. Against the urban backdrop, this interplay of defiance and suppression creates patterns like a Toranj on a Persian carpet.
